If there is a nest inside or around your house, look carefully at it. Remember, do not go too near the nest, and do not touch it. If you do, then the bird will not come to the nest again.
Observe the nest for some days and note down the following things:
(a) Where is the nest made?
Ans. The nest is made on the branch of a tree.
(ii) What is the nest made of?
Ans. The nest is made of dried leaves, straws, grass and threads.
(iii) Is the nest ready or are the birds still making it?

A Busy Month Chapter 8 Class 4 EVS Notes
Birds use the nest to lay their eggs. After eggs have hatched and chicks have grown, they leave the nest. The chapter describes different types of nests made by birds.
- Dove made its nest on the branches of trees.
- Indian Robin made its nest in spaces between the stones lying on the ground. The nest of the Indian Robin is made up of soft twigs, roots, wool, hair and cotton wool.
- Crow made its nest high up on the branches of trees. Its nest is made of all kinds of things, even pieces of wire or wood.
- Koel does not make its own nest. It lays eggs in the nest of a crow. If it makes its nest it may be among the thorns of the cactus plant or in the mehndi hedge.
- Sparrow made its nest near our homes and anywhere like on top of a cupboard, behind a mirror, or on a roof.
- Pigeon make their nests in old or deserted buildings.
- The Barbet or Coppersmith birds make their nest in a hole in the tree trunk. Its tuk-tuk sound can be heard in summer.
- The Tailorbird stitches together leave of the bushes with help of its beak to make its nest.
- SunBird makes a special type of nest. It hangs from a branch of a small tree or a bush. The nest is made of grass, hair, thin twigs, dry leaves, cottonwood, bits of tree bark, pieces of cloth rags and even spider’s cobwebs.
- The weaver birds also make nests similar to Sun Bird. The male bird weaves many beautiful nests and the female bird chooses the best among them.
The birds are so busy during the month of April. Making nests and laying eggs in them is the first step. After that, they have the difficult task to raise their young chicks.
There are many enemies of the birds which include human beings and other animals like crows, squirrels, cats, rats, snakes etc. All of them steal their eggs and many times destroy the nest.
The tasks of every bird include keeping themselves safe, making nests, finding food for themselves and their chicks, hatching eggs, and raising chicks safely.
