1. The poet says, “Beauty is heard in….”

Can you hear beauty? Add a sound that you think is beautiful to the sounds the poet thinks are beautiful.

Ans. Yes, we can hear beauty. The sounds of drizzling, the blowing of the sea breeze, the rustling of leaves, beautiful songs, tunes of flute, and the sound of falling water are the beautiful sounds that we hear.

The poet, John Keats, says:

Heard melodies are sweet,

But those unheard are sweeter.

What do you think this means? Have you ever ‘heard’ a song in your head long after the song was sung or played?

Ans. The poet, John Keats means to say that the songs that we hear are sweet but the songs that we think of in our imagination are sweeter. The memory of sweet songs that we heard a long time ago is in our imagination and they are sweeter.

2. Read the first and second stanzas of the poem again. Note the following phrases:

These could be written as

Corn that is growing

Can you rewrite other phrases like this? Why do you think the poet uses shorter phrases?

3. Find pictures of beautiful things, you have seen or heard of.

Ans. I have seen pictures of flowers, trees, birds, some wild animals, landscapes, forests, waterfalls, etc.

4. Write a paragraph on beauty. Use your own ideas along with the ideas in the poem. (You may discuss your ideas with your partner.)

Ans. Beauty in any form is a joy forever. It makes people happy brings smiles to their faces and makes the atmosphere cheerful. The beauty that we see in the bodies of human beings is temporary and short-lived but the beauty of nature and beauty of our good deeds, and polite behaviour stays forever.

The poet in the poem tells us about natural beauty. The beauty of nature can be heard by us in I form of certain pleasant sounds like the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, the sighing of the wind, falling of rain, We can see the beauty of nature in form of the rising sun, glowing moon, twinkling stars, blossoming flowers n spring, falling leaves in autumn.
