Ans. Babuji does so because the vegetable is a perishable item and it can get spoilt if not sold for a long time. To prevent these from getting spoilt Babuji sells them first.

Ans. Yes, I have seen dried and spoilt vegetables. I have seen them in the market and also in the kitchen at my home.

Ans. The vegetables after getting spoilt become overripe and give a foul smell.

From Home to Market Class 4 Notes
It is a story of a family of a girl named Vaishali whose father is a vegetable seller. The chapter describes the daily routine of the Vaishali’s family.
Day at Night
- Vaishali’s father is a vegetable seller.
- All the family members including Amma, Bhaiya, Chhotu and Vaishali helped him in his work.
- The family starts their work as early as 3’o clock in the morning.
- The family’s day begins with Babuji, Amma, Bhaiya and Vaishali taking out the previous day’s vegetable storage bags and baskets. This is to prepare for bringing the fresh vegetables from the mandi.
- After doing this they take tea and, in the meantime, Vaishali’s father, Bhaiya, Chachu and some other people from their street leave for mandi.
Preparing for the Day
- When Vaishali’s father remains away in the mandi Amma, Chhotu and Vaishali put the previous day’s vegetables on the gunny bags and sprinkle water on them.
- Vaishali’s father came back from mandi at about 6:30 a.m. with baskets and bags full of fresh vegetables.
- At that time, Vaishali’s home looks like a small vegetable market as there are all kinds of vegetables all around.
- Everybody helps in arranging the vegetables on the cart and vegetables which are not fully ripe and ready to sell are kept aside.
- By 7 a.m. Babuji arranges all the vegetables on the cart and leaves for the market because if he gets late his regular customers will buy vegetables from other sellers.
- As Vaishali’s father leaves for the market she quickly gets ready because she has to reach school by 7:30 a.m.
In the Bazaar
- Chhotu attends school in the afternoon.
- He goes to the bazaar with food for Babuji and Bhaiya.
- He stays with them at the vegetable cart, until it is time for him to go to school.
- After school, he goes back to the bazaar to help his father.
- Vaishali’s father tries to sell the previous day’s vegetables first.
- After the previous day’s vegetables are sold Vaishali’s Bhaiya takes out fresh vegetables from the bags and put them in the cart. He also keeps sprinkling water on the vegetables so that they do not dry up.
- Vaishali’s father and her father return home after a long day at around 10 o’clock.
- Everyone else in Vaishali’s family sleeps around 11 and 11:30 p.m.
