Stars Speak to Man Poem 9 Summary and Question Answers
Introduction
The poem “Stars Speak to Man” talks about the callousness and avarice of a man who happens to be the crown of creation. As the crown of creation, man has to look after the bounties of nature and share them equally. Sadly, the callousness, insensitivity and avarice are leading him into a state of apathy. Destruction of humanity can be avoided by rekindling love, kindness and the spirit of unity among men before it is too late.
Stars Speak to Men Poem 9 (By Abdul Ahad Azad)
You were the light of reason but you chose to be fire. O man!
You put humanity to disgrace, how callous of you, O man!
Nature had fashioned you to apportion love and affection
But you took to buying and selling religion and faith instead.
Nature had thrown open all its treasures to you;
You had to share them equitably but you sat serpent-like on them.
One world, one mankind, as close to one another as the nail to the flesh.
Who then ignited the fire of division and duality in your mind?
You pose to be the pillar of religion and dharma without caring the least of either.
Seeing your shameful deeds humanity has fallen into lament.
Should mankind ever own and profess a religion and faith,
Which pervert the essential unity of man into division and disorder?
To mischief and disruption, you have given the name of religion and patriotism:
That which you call awakening is a stupefying hangover.
Your own misdeeds have deluded you and you grumble against fate;
Still pursuing the hackneyed ways, how can you ferry across?
Your heart restlessly vibrating, your vision clouded by fantasies;
All this is a fanciful dream, now wake up, O man, wake up.
Friends and mates who shared your woe, like parts of your own heart.
How could you tear their hearts to pieces, you blood-thirsty man!
In your own garden you cut the roots while watering twigs and leaves;
Your own home you ransack and ravage tear apart.

Stars Speak to Man Poem Summary in English
The Poem “Stars Speak to Man” has been translated by Prof. G. R. Malik from a Kashmiri poem written by Abdul Ahad Azad. “Stars speak to man’ is a thought-provoking poem that encourages human beings to rekindle love, kindness, and a spirit of unity among men before it is too late.
In this poem, the poet has described that as the crown of all the Almighty God’s creation, he was meant to defend and equitably distribute the treasures of nature but humans put humanity to shame and disgrace by falling into the vices of greed and started fighting in the name of religion caste, culture, etc. The poet laments the state of a man who was born to make sound decisions but chose the path of destruction and disgraced the entire human race. The poet wonders that if religion and patriotism result in the massacre of one’s brothers and sisters then what is the fun of having such a religion and faith.
The poet says that we live in the same world, and belong to the same mankind but he wonders who has put the double standards in the man’s heart. The man who pretends to be supporting his religion is in reality far from being pious, he cares neither for religion nor for faith. The poet is angry at the behaviour of humans as they ransack their own homes and tear apart their hearts by bringing harm to their brothers. The poet wonders how can a garden survive if its guards start cutting the roots of trees and keep on watering the twigs and leaves. Giving this example, the poet warns that if this behaviour does not stop ultimately humanity will come to an end.
Stars Speak to Man Poem Summary in English
