The poet says that once he was feeling sad, very upset, anxious, and not in good physical condition. A rich man came to know about him, he gave him money but show no sign of sympathy or kindness towards him. The poet used the money and his sorrow passed. After recovering, the poet returned his money and said thanks to the proud man for his help and also gave him blessings for his charity.

After some time, the poet was again in the same situation of sorrow and physical weakness. At this time a poor man passed by him. He came to know about his sorrow. The poor man helped the poet by taking care of him. The poor man bound his head and gave him food to eat. He looked after the poet all day and night. After some time, the poet recovered and regain his health but he doesn’t know how to pay back the poor man for his help and sympathy. The poet says that though gold is great the virtue of “Sympathy” is greater.

कुछ समय बाद कवि फिर से वही दु:ख और शारीरिक दुर्बलता की स्थिति में आ गया। उसी समय एक गरीब आदमी उसके पास से गुजरा। उसे अपने दुख का पता चला। गरीब आदमी ने उसकी देखभाल करके कवि की मदद की। गरीब आदमी ने अपना सिर बांध लिया और उसे खाने के लिए खाना दिया। उन्होंने दिन-रात कवि की देखभाल की। कुछ समय बाद कवि ठीक हो गया और स्वस्थ हो गया, लेकिन वह नहीं जानता कि गरीब आदमी को उसकी मदद और सहानुभूति के लिए कैसे भुगतान किया जाए। कवि कहता है कि सोना भले ही महान है लेकिन सहानुभूति का गुण बड़ा है।

Write about how you will differentiate between the rich man and the poor man in the poem.

Ans. The rich man was proud and has no feeling of sympathy for the poet. He gave gold to help the poet but showed no kindness towards him. It shows that he is a rich man and has a lot of money but no time to help the poor.

On the other hand, the poor man has no money but his heart has love and sympathy for people. He looked after the poet till he regains his fitness. It shows that the poor man helps others with his heart.
