The Friendly Mongoose Class 8 Summary in English
тАЬThe Friendly MongooseтАЭ is a short story taken from the Panchatantra series. It is a story of a small family having a farmer, his wife, and a small son that lived in a small village. One day farmer brought a baby mongoose home to accompany his son in the future. The baby mongoose also lived with them, to give them company in the future. The baby mongoose grew to its full size in five to six months, but the farmer’s son was still a baby in the cradle.
One day, the farmerтАЩs wife decided to go to the market. She fed the baby and rocked him to sleep. Before leaving for the market she told her husband to keep an eye on the baby because she feared leaving the child alone with the mongoose. The farmer was confident that the mongoose will not harm the child so he left to have a look at his field which was not far away but he met some friends while returning and could not get back on time.
The farmer’s wife returned home after some time She had brought a basket full of groceries. She saw the mongoose sitting outside. She saw its face and paws were covered with blood. She instantly thought that her son had been killed by the mongoose. She hit the mongoose hard with her basket full of groceries on its head. The mongoose died.
She ran inside quickly to look out for her baby and found the baby asleep and a dead black snake in a pool of blood lying near the child’s cradle. She learned the truth the mongoose had saved her son from the snake. She stared at the dead mongoose for a long time and started sobbing and repented a lot. But it was of no use. Her rash and foolish decision were responsible for this. So, we should never take our decisions in hurry.
