Tom and His New Medicine Class 4th Summary
Tom was not feeling well. He was not able to eat or sleep as usual. He did not want to run away from school and sometimes he doesn’t even want to play. He was sad. Tom is ill, Aunt Polly thought and decided to give him some medicine.
Aunt Polly was fond of all kinds of medicines and had a lot of books on this subject. Her newest idea was that when a boy was ill, he must have to bathe with cold water every day. So, every morning she made Tom stand in a yard and threw ice-cold water over him. After that, she wrapped him in a wet sheet and made him lie in the bed. He could not help Tom his health only got worse. Looking at this Aunty Polly tried a new idea and bathe Tom with hot water now but this hasn’t helped him either.
In the meantime, Aunt Polly had heard about a new medicine, a pain killer. It was so bitter but Aunt Polly wanted Tom to drink it. Tom didn’t like it and try not to drink it, or pour it into the hole in the floor when his aunt was not looking at him. One day when Tom was pouring the medicine into the hole, a cat came there and Tom poured some medicine into her mouth. The cat at once jumped into the air and started dancing on its back legs. It was behaving like it was mad. It made Tom laugh so heavily and heartily. Hearing the noise Aunt Polly came there.
She asked Tom about the matter but he could not speak as he was laughing and pointed towards the cat. She asked Tom what had happened to the cat and if he had been giving that medicine to the cat. Tom said he don’t know what had happened to it but Aunt Polly saw the bottle of medicine, a spoon and a saucer and understood the matter.
Tom expected his Aunt to get angry but he was surprised because she was in deep thought. She said perhaps that was not good medicine for boys. She told Tom not to drink the medicine anymore. It was good news for Tom, it made him happier, and he started feeling better.
