- Is Lucy right?
Lucy went to the market with her grandpa.
She looked at the prices and said to her grandpa —
Mark ( ) or ( × ) in the box.
(a) Ghee is Rs 102 rupees costlier than biscuits. ( )
(b) Price of oil and ghee altogether is more than Rs 200. ( )
(c) Price of ghee and 10 kg rice is less than Rs 300. ( )
(d) Oil costs Rs 40 more than a pack of biscuits. ( )
Is Lucy right?
Can you find this without using paper and a pencil?
(a) Cost of Ghee is Rs. 127 and the cost of biscuits is Rs. 25. So, the cost of ghee is 102 costlier than biscuits. Thus, Lucy is correct.
(b) Cost of Ghee is Rs. 127 and the cost of oil is Rs. 70. So, the cost of ghee and oil altogether is 127 + 70 = 197 which is less than Rs. 200. Thus, Lucy is incorrect.
(c) Cost of Ghee is Rs. 127 and the cost of 10 kg rice is 150. So, the cost of ghee and 10 kg rice is 120 + 150 = Rs. 297 which is less than Rs. 300. Thus, Lucy is correct.
(d) Cost of a pack of biscuits is Rs. 25 and the cost of oil is Rs. 70. So, the cost of oil is Rs. 45 more than the cost of a pack of biscuits. Thus, Lucy is correct.
