First, guess the answer and then check it by calculating:

i) 42 x 23

Sol. 40 x 20 = 800

So, the answer is more than 800.

Add the numbers encircled in red:

800 + 120 + 40 + 6 = 966.

So, 42 x 23 = 966.

ii) 73 x 11

Sol. 70 x 10 = 700.

So, the answer is more than 700.

Add the numbers encircled in red:

700 + 70 + 30 + 3 = 803

So, 73 x 11 = 803.

iii) 51 x 13

Sol. 50 x 10 = 500

So, the answer is more than 500.

Add the numbers encircled in red:

500 + 150 + 10 + 3 = 663

So, 51 x 13 = 663.

iv) 54 x 12

Sol. 50 x 10 = 500

So, the answer is more than 500.

Add the numbers encircled in red:

500 + 100 + 40 + 8 = 648.

So, 54 x 12 = 648.

v) 25 x 36

Sol. 20 x 30 = 600

So, the answer is more than 600.

Add the numbers encircled in red:

600 + 120 + 150 + 30 = 900

So, 25 x 36 = 900.

vi) 12 x 14

Sol. 10 x 10 = 100.

So, the answer is more than 100.

Add the numbers encircled in red:

100 + 40 + 20 + 8 = 168

So, 12 x 14 = 168.

Multiplication Patterns

Complete the grid by multiplying the numbers

Sol.

Look at the cross in your grid.

Add the numbers together from top to bottom.

3 + 6 + 9 = 18

Add the numbers together from left to right.

4 + 6 + 8 = 18

The total is the same.

Look for other such crosses and copy them in your notebook.
