Mansar Lake Class 4 Summary in English.
Mansar Lake is situated at a distance of 62 kilometres from Jammu City in the Udhampur district. It is surrounded by hills having dense forests on all sides. It is one of the popular tourist spots for excursions also it is a holy site for people of the Hindu religion. The Lake has an outer circumference of 4 kilometres. The boating facilities for the visitors are also available in the lake.
There is a shrine of Sheshnag (a mythological snake with six heads) on the eastern bank of the lake. There are ancient temples of Umapati, Mahadev, Narsimha and Durga on the banks of the lake. These are visited by the devotees. The newlywed couples make three rounds of these temples out of their belief that it would bring joy to their married life. There are also some communities of Hindus which perform mundun (first haircut) of their male children here.
Mansar is also popular for its rich flora and fauna. There is a wildlife sanctuary (Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary) near the lake. It is famous for Spotted deer, Neelgai, and water birds such as cranes and ducks. The presence of seasonal birds, tortoises, and different species of fish enhances the beauty of the lake.
Jammu Kashmir Tourism Department organizes a food and crafts festival here in April every year. The cultural festival of Dogras is organized in Mansar in May. The festival named Chinng (The local word for dangal) is held here in which the wrestlers of the region assemble and participate.
