A Wall that will not Fall
One day Muniya and Zainab are playing with bricks and making their walls. Each makes a different wall.
Zainab says her wall will not fall easily. Masons too do not put bricks one on top of the other, as Muniya has done.

Have you seen bricks of different sizes?
Ans. Yes, I have seen bricks of different sizes.
Take one brick and measure it.
(a) How long is it?
Ans. Its length is 9” (9 inch).
(b) How wide is it?
Ans. Its width is 4.5″ (4.5 inch).
(c) How high is it?
Ans. Its height is 3″ (3 inch).
Muniya wants to make a wall 1 metre long. How many bricks will she need to put in a line?
Ans. It depends on the size of the brick If the size of the brick is 8 inches long then she needs 5 bricks but if the size of a brick is 9 inches in length then she needs 4 and a half bricks to make a wall 1 metre long.

Mental Math: Bhajan Buys Bricks
Bhajan went to buy bricks. The price was given for one thousand bricks. The prices were also different for different types of bricks.
Old bricks | -3500 for one thousand bricks |
New bricks from Intapur | - 5500 for one thousand bricks |
New bricks from Brickabad | -6000 for one thousand bricks |
Bhajan decided to buy the new bricks from Brickabad. He bought three thousand bricks.
How much did he pay?
Ans. He paid (6000 × 3) = 18000 for three thousand new bricks.
Guess what he will pay if he buys 500 old bricks.
Ans. For 500 old bricks, he will pay = 1750.
