Here is a new blog post in Class 7th English. “The Invention of Vita Wonk” is Chapter 7 taken from the newly introduced textbook Melody English for students of Class 7th of JKBOSE and Honeycomb English for NCERT students. A British author of popular children’s literature and short stories, a poet, screenwriter and a wartime fighter ace Roald Dahl wrote it. It is taken from the book (Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator) This post concerns The Invention of Vita Wonk Summary and Question Answers. Introduction
The given chapter is about Willy Wonka, the inventor, who created Wonka-Vite to make people younger. Unfortunately, it didn’t work well because the product was too strong, and some people disappeared because their age became negative. One person becomes minus eighty-seven, which means he’s got to wait eighty-seven years before he can come back.so Willy Wonka had to come up with a different invention. After thinking hard, he came up with a new idea.
The Invention of Vita Wonk Summary in English
The story begins with Mr. Wonka sharing with Charlie the tale of how he had invented Vita-Wonk. He was determined to create something entirely new. He squeezed his brain so that he could think of a new recipe. He wanted to make people old by creating age. He was searching for something which could live the longest span of life. Then, he told Charlie that he had asked himself what was the oldest living thing in the world and what lived longer than anything else. Charlie suggested a tree, and Mr. Wonka agreed. Both of them discussed different trees. Mr Wonka said that the Bristlecone Pine tree found in Nevada, USA, which could surpass 4,000 years in age was suitable.
Mr. Wonka embarked on a global journey, gathering items from exceptionally old beings. He collected sap from a 4,000-year-old pine tree, toenail clippings from a 168-year-old Russian farmer, an egg from a 200-year-old tortoise owned by the king of Tonga, and more. Mr Wonka explained that he took tiny portions, like hair or an ounce of jam scraped from between toes, during the beings’ sleep.
After numerous experiments in his Inventing Room, Mr. Wonka successfully produced a small cup of oily black liquid. To test it, he gave four drops to a 20-year-old Oompa Loompa, and the result was astonishing. The Oompa Loompa rapidly aged, wrinkled, losing hair, and even teeth falling out, transforming into a 75-year-old. This, Mr. Wonka concluded, was the remarkable and somewhat perilous process through which Vita-Wonk came into existence.

Ans. Mr. Wonks mentions Douglas Fir, oak and the Bristlecone pine trees in his discussion with Charlie. According to him, the Bristlecone pine tree lives the longest.
(ii) How long does this tree live? Where can you find it?
Ans. The Bristlecone pine tree has a lifespan of over 4000 years. This tree could be found on the slopes of Wheeler Peak in Nevada, U.S.A.
2. How many of the oldest living things can you remember from Mr. Wonka’s list? (Don’t look back at the story!) Do you think all these things really exist, or are some of them purely imaginary?
Ans. Mr. Wonka makes a long list of the oldest living things. I could not remember all these things. However, some of them which I can remember are;
A pint of sap from a 4000-year-old Bristlecone Pine,
An egg laid by a 200-year-old Tortoise,
The tail of a 51-year-old horse in Arabia,
The tail of a 207-year-old giant rat from Tibet, and
The knucklebones of a 700-year-old Cattaloo from Peru.
I don’t think all these things are found in real life. Some of them seem just to be imaginary and can be found only in fictional stories.
3. Why does Mr. Wonka collect items from the oldest things? Do you think this is the right way to begin his invention?
Ans. Mr. Wonka collected all these items from the oldest living things because he wanted them in his invention. I think this is the right way to begin his invention. And it gave him positive results also.
4. What happens to the volunteer who swallows four drops of the new invention? What is the name of the invention?
Ans. After swallowing the drops, the volunteer begins to wrinkle and shrivel up all over. His hair starts dropping. He suddenly becomes an old fellow of seventy-five. The name of this invention is Vita-Wonk.

- (i) Make a list of the trees Mr. Wonka mentions. Where do these trees grow? Try to find out from an encyclopaedia. Write a short paragraph about two or three of these trees.
Mr Wonka mentions the following trees:
- Douglas fir
- Oak
- Cedar
- Bristlecone pine
Douglas fir is found in coastal regions from west-central British Columbia southward to central California. It is native to North America and is famous for its height. It is a vital source of timber.
Oak is found in cool temperate to tropical latitudes in Asia and America. They are famous for hardwood. It is often used in furniture crafting, flooring, and even barrel making.
We can find Cedar in the mountains of the western Himalayas and the Mediterranean region. Cedar trees are renowned for their aromatic wood and natural insect-repelling properties. Cedar is often used in the construction of closets and chests.
Bristlecone Pines are found in the higher mountains of the southwest United States. There are such bristlecone pine trees which are over 4000 years old. Bristlecone Pines trees can endure extreme temperatures and rocky terrain.
(ii) Name some large trees commonly found in your area. Find out something about them (How old are they? Who planted them? Do birds eat their fruit?), and write two or three sentences about each one of them. bise
Ans. Some large trees found around my area are:
- Eucalyptus
- Maple
- Deodar
Eucalyptus trees are largely found in my area. It is native to Australia. They are used to prepare eucalyptus oil that has medicinal uses. Its wood is prized for its durability.
Maple trees are celebrated for their vibrant autumn foliage and distinctive lobed leaves. The wood of the maple tree is highly valued for its strength and is commonly used in the crafting of furniture and musical instruments, such as violins.
The Deodar is an evergreen conifer native to the Himalayan region. It has drooping branches and aromatic wood. It is frequently used in landscaping and timber production, contributing to the cultural and ecological tapestry of the Himalayan mountains.
- Find out something interesting about age, or growing old, and write a paragraph about it. Following are a few topics, suggested as examples.
- The age profile of a country’s population- does it have more young people than old people, or vice versa? What are the consequences of this?
- How can we tell how old a tree, a horse, or a rock is? What is the ‘life expectancy’ of various living things, and 01 various populations (how long can they reasonably expect to live)?
Ans. The age profile of a country matters because it affects how efficient and developed the country is. If there are more young people, it tends to be better for development. But if there are mostly older people, the country needs more resources for things like security, pensions, and healthcare. Modern medicine has increased how long people live, so now we have more elderly individuals. This also means more people who aren’t working.
Scientists use a method called radio-carbon isotope dating to figure out how old things like trees and rocks are, as they’re made of carbon. Different species have different life expectancies – some live only a few hours or days, while others, like humans, can live 60-70 years on average.
